They are: attendant-propelled wheel chair, self propelled wheel chair and the wheel base.

The attendant-propelled wheelchairs are pushed by a companion or any substitute holding the handles which are behind the wheel chair. This kind of wheel chair is mainly used in hospitals or airports for moving patients to different locations which are at short distances. The attendant wheelchairs are specially designed to fit the airplane seats and aisles.

The self propelled kind of wheel chairs has large rear wheels which measures from 20 to 26 inches in diameter which resembles the wheels of the bicycle. The user can propel the self propelled manual wheel chair by moving forward the hand rims, which are the round steel tube situated on the face of the wheels. The users which are used to use can balance and control the speed, balance and turning of the wheel chair without any difficulty.

A solo arm propel facilitates the users to take turns either right or left where as the two armed propel facilitates the users to push and pull or move backward or forward in a straight line. In addition one more type of manual wheel chair that is normally used is the lever drive wheel chair. These kinds of wheel chairs facilitate the user to move ahead by propelling the lever backward and forward.

Apart there are various kinds of wheelchairs which are fabricated for medical purposes, plus there is a type of wheel chair which is specially designed for sports activities like for playing basket ball. It allows the player or the user to shift forward when dodging or dribbling the ball.

Besides Wheel base chair are customized platforms which consist of especially made seating structure for patients with intricate body postures. These are designed by taking care of the seating positions of the patients and then are molded according to the shape and requirement from the foam. Then finally the seat gets structured and is sticked to the wheel base.

However, these kinds of wheel chair are basically available in four main categories, including aluminum, titanium, steel and carbon fiber. In addition, there is a wide range of manual wheel chair available on market. Thus while buying wheel chairs take care of the following points:

Choose a right kind of structured frame. The most common characteristic of these wheel chairs are the X brace at the middle of the wheel chair which will help in folding the chair sideways.

Take care of the comfortnes of the patient; it should exactly fit the structure and size of the user, if it is not in that case it can further trouble them, like muscle disorder and some more.

Do not ignore the hand rim because its diameters will largely define the propulsion, and if it is ignored it can lead to an accident.
